Subject: martial art traditions
Question: Hello Peter Ziboce, my name is Lauren and I am doing a inquiry project for my grade 9 ELA class. Our broad topic is respect for traditions, and as being a martial artist I have chosen to choose martial art traditions. So I was wondering if you could help me find a proper answer to my question.
Why does media portray martial arts in a specific fashion that is different from the actual martial arts traditions and why has the media chosen this portrayal?
My project is due very soon so if it would be possible I would like it if you could email me an answer before Sunday That would be great! Thanks so much for your time!
Lauren
Answer: Dear Lauren,
Thanks for asking.
The big difference between traditions and fashions is life style. Life style refers to the needs of the people in a specific space/location and time.
Fashions of today may become traditions of tomorrow.
In fact, martial art is a collection of intelligence, knowledge, experience of time. Different people, different environment, do have a contribution of inputs.
So I would say, I keep myself alert of new things and on the other hand, explore wisdom of the past.
I hope I have mentioned the key point, NEED. Media's function is to provide service to the needed crowd.
I hope my idea helps you.
You are always welcome.
Regards,
Peter Ziboce
